Did you know that the President of a highly respected Memphis college has signed a petition to have the legal drinking age lowered from 21 to 18? As I was reading the story about some of the best-known college Presidents leading the way in this debate, it didn’t surprise me to see the names of schools like Duke, Dartmouth and Ohio State but Memphis’ Rhodes College?
Really? Rhodes College? The Rhodes President goes on to say that “it’s an important topic to American families and it deserves a straightforward dialogue.”
Really? It’s not our troops struggling to keep peace in the world?
“it’s an important topic to American families and it deserves a straightforward dialogue.”
Really? It’s not the dire situation of the credit industry and rising foreclosure rates?
“it’s an important topic to American families and it deserves a straightforward dialogue.”
Really? It’s not gas at almost four dollars a gallon? Really?
Having served our country (starting) at the age of 18 and not being allowed in a bar, I understand the debate. It’s a little strange to die in war but legally not crack a open a Bud. To state this conversation is important to the American family must come from someone who has no family. I mean that in the kindest way possible.
You don’t stop underage drinking by allowing kids to drink. You stop the problem with education and information. The Amethyst Initiative is an organization formed on campuses by UNDERAGED KIDS. Get it? They do get credit for their creative thinking. Even their website looks legit. I bet the idea came about as a bunch of underaged students sat in their dorm room drinking dank beer and playing “Asshole” or “Beer Pong.”

Maybe next we should allow prisoners to redefine what constitutes breaking the law.

I just made a post about this (along with hundreds of other people) haha but I think that as long as you are in the military you should be able to drink as long as that’s not abused (as in like, don’t drink 24 hours before a shift or only Friday and Saturday’s underagers can drink. I don’t think it’s fair that they fight for everything we have over here and they’re not even allowed to have a beer.
But at the same time, underage drinking goes on ALOT and the only way to stop it is through a good legal system, which America lacks. I guess they figure that there are more important things they need to worry about, but at the same time, it’s made headline news, so what do they plan on doing now?
I agree but disagree with the whole underage ordeal. I think it should be done in a proper manor by allowing privelidged… if not we are just going to have MORE and MORE underagers just sitting around getting piss drunk.
